About the Cover
Cover: African trypanosomes are covered by a dense surface coat consisting of identical copies of a single variant surface glycoprotein (VSG), which is linked to the plasma membrane via a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol membrane anchor. For details about membrane anchoring of the VSG molecule, see the article by X. Kang et al. (pp. 2529-2539). The image shows a pseudo-coloured trypanosome beside two erythrocytes (courtesy of M. Duszenko and Eye of Science, Reutlingen, Germany).
