The early stages of fibronectin matrix assembly. The FN matrix is visualized by FN-yfp shown in green, and the actin cytoskeleton is stained by cfp-Moe shown in red. Five sites of matrix assembly are identified by numbers at 0:00. In these sites, the FN matrix first appears as small spots which then elongate or coalesce along the actin filament bundles. This movie also shows the very dramatic movements of two FN fibrils marked by arrows at 0:00. Images were taken at 30 minute intervals.
