Histochemical Methods for Protein-bound Sulphydryl and Disulphide Groups

G. GOMORI 1

1 Department of Medicine, the University of Chicago

Histochemical methods for the localization of protein-bound sulphydryl groups were compared in a critical fashion. As far as localization is concerned, several of the methods published were found to be satisfactory. However, from the point of view of approximate visual quantitation, the results are confusing. The two best methods for the histochemical detection of protein-bound sulphydryl groups are the tetrazolium method and Barrnett and Seligman's dihydroxydinaphthyldisulphide technique.
