Cytochemistry of the Test Cells in the Eggs of Pyura Squamulosa (Tunicata, Pleurogonia)

The test cells in the eggs of Pyura squamulosa are rich in PAS-negative acid mucopolysaccharides. They also contain PAS-positive lipoproteins and other carbohydrate-protein-lipid complexes. The possible role of sulphated acid mucopolysaccharides in these cells is discussed.
