A machine is described for the automatic staining of sections of tissue, mounted on microscope slides. It is narrow and compact, and can be placed along the back of a bench or on a shelf. Although for the present purpose the machine is designed to accommodate up to 26 tanks, any number less than this may be used. A rack holding 30 slides is attached to a carrier, which then conveys it through the various solutions, according to a predetermined programme.
