Glycogen can be demonstrated histochemically in mammalian liver cells fixed in osmium tetroxide and embedded either in gelatine or in media used in electron microscopy. The form and distribution of the glycogen correspond very closely with those of structures seen in electron micrographs and which have been presumed to be glycogen.
Evidence was obtained which suggests that the glycogen occurring in some cells as small particles is probably not associated with mitochondria.
